vOneCloud beyond ESXI hosts

Wondering if you add the vOnecloud OVA file to a VMWARE VM, if it can also manage computing hosts outside of vmware cluster or esxi hosts.

Or best to install the standard OpenNebula within a VMware VM as the admin panel for the OpenNebula computing hosts?

Was looking for an OVA file if it existed.

It appears vOneCloud i targeting vmware users that no longer desire to support vmware high costs. Case being correct, but for an existing vmware cluster and what it offers, wont it be best to deploy the opennebula admin on such a HA environment?

The idea is to have the OpenNebula admin/management within a VM that can migrate to another esxi host if a esxi fails for HA, but for computing use new server hosts (not esxi hosts or part of vmware cluster).

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

George

vOneCloud can manage vCenter instances and clusters outside where vOneCloud is actually running.

If you need HA for the controller, then you'll need to check OpenNebula as vOneCloud does not include this functionality.

Hello,

Thank you for follow up.

So in case OpenNebula is used with the Vcenter drivers I see it supports (via the ONE<>Vcenter API integration) which will allow us to also access the connected netapp storage appliances since I do not see such a driver from ONE for netapp, does this mean that ONE is also able to leverage these connections to hosts that are not ESXI hosts, much like a hybrid private cloud mixing VMWARE hosts and also bare-metal managed only by OpenNebula to some extent?

Trying to see if ONE can get me to scale to more hosts somehow beyond what is managed by vmware esxi hosts when located within the same DC while being able to leverage the same netapp storage appliances to vmware and ONE hosts.

Or simply go NFS and this way we can pursue the hybrid approach (using netapp for both vmware and ONE clusters, assuming no specific drivers are needed to be developed when using NFS?

Also - cant seem to get a page to open for AddOns catalog as I get page not found.

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

vOneCloud is a layer that works above vcenter server, and cannot connect directly to ESXi hosts, so vcenter is mandatory.

If you want mix hypervisor like KVM, you must install Opennebula instead vOneCloud ( this is only for vcenter ).

Regarding NetApp question, you cannot manage it from opennebula directly, you can use it as usually into vcenter or kvm, and then you can import "datastores" into opennebula to work with them.

Where did you get the link you provide us? This is the right link for AddOns

Please let us know if you have further questions.
